Monique Mbeka Phoba spent part of her childhood in Congo-Kinshasa, formerly known as Zaire, where witchcraft plays an integral part in people's lives. She then went to live in Belgium. There, her parents decided against telling her about witchcraft and its role in shaping her identity even though it had a direct influence on relations between the members of the family.

After this long silence, her parents became almost strangers to Monique. And she became a stranger to her own culture. How is a personality constructed and what values can we refer to when a person lives in a Western environment, but within a family structure in which the traditional cultural references are present but remain unexplained? It is this question, and many others, that the director will try to answer by undertaking this journey back to her roots. Ranging from the daily practices of witchcraft in Congo-Kinshasa to the frank and surprising clashes between Monique Mbeka Phoba and the people close to her, the film follows the rhythm of its maker's search
