Living in exile in Canada since the social and political crisis in Burundi began in 1993, Léonce Ngabo learns that the last elephant in his country was killed in 2002. He decides to return to the country of a thousand and one hills, curious to see the state of the environment. Crossing the country through the parks of Rusizi, Kibira, and Ruvubu, as well as the bird lakes, Léonce discovers that his country still has a wealth of natural wonders, a real tourist's treasure trove. But he also notices that these parks, the last guardians of Burundi's ecological heritage, have also been affected by the war and that their future is under threat from a variety of dangers.
